We are proud to welcome a hugely diverse and talented group of people into our studio year after year. Our team itself is made up of a group of women, non-binary people, queer identities, and LGBT allies!
The Craft Pottery is unlike many other 'queer spaces' which can often revolve around alcohol. Whilst our studio does have a BYOB policy, that part is entirely optional. This allows people of all walks of life to enjoy our studio, including children and young people, sober people, people who find bars loud and overwhelming due to sensory difficulties, people who cannot consume alcohol due to religious reasons, people with disabilities that may add additional barriers, pregnant people, and many others.
Following the recent bill changing the use of public toilets for transgender people, we knew it was more important than ever to have a ground-floor, accessible, and gender-neutral toilet available for our community to use.
Over the years, we have worked with many queer venues, groups, societies and charities, which has been such a joy for us. Fundraising for charities including Mermaids who are an organisation helping empower transgender youth, Switchboard who have provided the UK's longest running helpline for LGBTQ+ people, Not a Phase who help educate about transgender adults, Stonewall a movement advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, Mind Out who are focused on the mental health of the queer community, Bonjour who previously had a coop in Glasgow providing a safe haven for many queer people, and local donations for the transgender people in our immediate community who are fundraising for transition costs. We’ve also hosted events with groups and venues including LGBT Youth Scotland, It Gets Better UK, Lavender Lounge, The Corset Club, Sapphic Socials, Queer Life Drawing and more!
We have zero tolerance for any form of discrimination or abuse, and trust that all of our customers understand and respect this rule. We use gender-neutral language to address our painters and truly hope that we can be a wee escape from some of the challenging parts of existing as a queer person in public spaces.
